Times Square Fashion Week Shines a Spotlight on Sustainable Fashion

As the bright lights of Times Square glittered in the background, fashion enthusiasts, designers, and photographers gathered on September 12th for a remarkable evening celebrating the artistry of fashion. Times Square Fashion Week, an event that has become synonymous with style and innovation, took center stage, and Sal Media, along with Irfan Ahson, had the privilege of capturing the essence of this spectacular evening through my lens.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Founder and Producer, Dee Rivera, whose passion for fashion and dedication to promoting sustainability has made Times Square Fashion Week a standout on the fashion calendar. Hosted by the glamorous Jean Shafiroff, a noted philanthropist and socialite, the evening was not only a celebration of style but also a platform for acknowledging individuals who have made significant contributions to the fashion industry.

Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright and Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine were present to make proclamations, recognizing the importance of fashion in the cultural fabric of New York City. Their presence added a touch of officiality to the event, underscoring the significance of fashion in our society.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the “I Love NY Awards.” These awards served as a testament to the talent and dedication of those shaping the fashion landscape. Dr. Christina Rahm, the visionary designer and founder of Merci Dupre Clothiers, ENVIRoware, DRC Ventures, and Root Brands, received the Sustainable Fashion Award. The “Rising Star Award” was bestowed upon Natasha Peters, the creative force behind Kaska Dena Designs. Her collection was a testament to her artistic prowess and her unique ability to blend tradition with contemporary style.

Meanwhile, Teddy McRitchie, the mastermind behind Teddy McRitchie Designs, and Simone Zarpelon Leao, the innovative designer of Outer, were both honored with the “I Love NY Award.” Their creations pushed the boundaries of fashion and showcased the diversity of talent within the industry.
